Losing weight can be dangerous if it is not handled properly. Extreme dieting can cause more health problems than being overweight can, in some instances. Losing even a small amount of weight can offer great health benefits and make you look and feel better, but you should be careful with your approach to it and make sure that your health is your top priority. It is far better to be overweight and healthy than skinny with several health problems that have occurred because of how you lost the weight. If you don’t think this is true, you should re-evaluate your motives and consider getting a professional opinion on how much weight you should lose and how you should go about doing it in a safe and healthy manner. Crash diets may work but you are more likely to gain the weight back and potentially even more and you run the risk of harming yourself physically and mentally in the process as well.
If you’ve not been doing any sort of physical activity and you’ve been eating massively unhealthy, starting a marathon training program and only eating salad and fish is not a good way to start. Extreme physical activity changes is a good way to become injured or burn yourself out quickly and greatly altering your diet, although safe in most cases if you’re eating nutritionally sound meals, can shock your body as well. It’s always a good idea to talk to your doctor because embarking on any type of lifestyle change. This is especially true if you are diabetic or have blood pressure problems. Any medications you are on should also be taken into consideration because sometimes what you eat for the physical activity you do can increase the risk of side effects.
Don’t try to crash diet. It may seem like a good idea because it works for your favorite celebrity, but it just isn’t a good idea for anyone. Celebrities have a fully trained staff of nutritionist and personal trainers to follow them around constantly making sure that they don’t give in to temptations and also to notice any minor symptoms that could be signs of medical problems related to an extreme diet. Be realistic and understand that you did not get overweight in one day and you will not get skinny in one day. Trying to do so can result in you becoming sick, injured, or even result in death. There is a reason people with eating disorders get hospitalized and it is not uncommon for them to die, particularly if they do not get the proper treatment.
Exercise, but listen to your body
When planning your meals you should also take into consideration what physical activity you are doing. Someone that is dieting without working out can consume fewer calories and see great results but someone that is working out and trying to eat the same level of calories will begin feeling exhausted.
Physical activity is an important part of any healthy life style. However, if you’ve not been exercising for some time now or you are recovering from an injury that prevented you from continuing an exercise program that you were doing previously, you should start slowly. Let your muscles get used to moving again. It’s always a good idea to push yourself a bit but you should not push yourself so hard that you get injured or start hating exercise. Try to view exercise as something enjoyable and a treat for your body. If you start having any unusual pains or unreasonable tiredness, back off and take it easy for a bit. Overexerting yourself will only cause you to delay your results because you won’t be able to work out for days or even weeks due to injury.
